Sorry to butt in here, but I have a fairly mundane question for you Magyars, and no, it hasn't got anything to do with borders. Just what is the most common, ordinary surname in Hungary? The equivalent of "Johnson" and "Smith" in English-speaking countries.

Hello Anders,

Surprisingly smiths made a lot of children in Hungary too, so the Hungarian 'Smith' is the 2nd most common, but here is the list:

The Top5 most common hungarian Family names:

1. Nagy (Big)
2. Kovács (Smith)
3. Tóth (Older name for Slovaks)
4. Szabó (Taylor)
5. Horváth (Croat, Croatian)

Are you doing some AAR, if I may ask? Smile
Or why are you asking about these surnames?

I'm rejoining the CK2->HoI megacampaign as King of Hungary, apparently. And I just wanted to pick a very, very common family name Big Grin
