General Guidelines

  • Only one registration per person is allowed.

  • Sig pictures are ok as far as they are not too disturbing and too big - something up to standard banner size (468x60) without too many amimations. To make it easier for one's eyes to read the forums without hijacks.

  • When posting your arguments, think about this first: "Use soft words and strong arguments."

  • Be friendly and positive, this shouldn't be the place to vent your aggressiveness.

  • Do not insult or deliberately provoke other forum members into pointless discussion beyond given topic.

  • This is no place for advertisement spam. Anyone doing this will be banned/deleted and his posts deleted! If you are not sure what does that mean, send me a PM.

  • Everyone is responsible for what he posts, that includes legal responsibility and copyright law.

  • This forum uses English as its language. Posting in other languages is allowed only in specifically designated forums.

  • If you think something is missing here, PM me please.

    Posting and replying

There are few "best practices" how to post messages and reply to those of other users. I'll try to sum them up here. If you think something is wrong or missing, send me a PM. Thanks Wink

    Replying and quoting

When you reply to posts, the easiest way is to click on "Quote" button and write your reply under this quote. But it's not always the best way how to do it. You can make this forum smaller in size (which equals to lower hosting space, bandwidth and better readability). Each of these aspects have its value. So, try to reply in accordance with following "rules":

  • If you reply to just small part of original post, do not include rest of original post in the quote. Include just relevant part of it. It both reduces size of message and improves its readability, as reader sees better what you are replying to.

  • Do not quote if whole topic is straightforward and quoting just repeates previous post. Quote only if you want to accent specific part of original message or if post you reply to is not directly preceding your reply.

    Avatars

Since some time users can upload their own avatars in addition to collections of predefined ones. There are few restrictions that apply to this images to ensure compatibility with forum layout and technical presets. To avoid confusion, you should know them before preparing/uploading your avatar.

    Maximum dimensions and filesize

  • Avatar pictures can be maximum of 150 pixels wide and 150 pixels high. If you upload picture bigger than that, it'll be resized which may result in reduced quality. Better way how to do it is to prepare your avatar image so it is no bigger than 150x150 pixels.

  • Max file size of uploaded avatar is 35000 bytes (around 34kB). Trying to upload bigger avatar picture will result in failure. Try to use higher compression/different file format or color depth to comply with this restriction.

  • Avatar shouldn't be offensive or violating any legal regulations. Each user is responsible for his custom avatar. If custom avatar is considered harmful for this forums by forum council, it can be deleted without notice. Such an action can be discussed by means of PM to me or any forum council member.

    Ranks

Everyone has option to choose which rank group he wants to belong to. These are predesigned ranks. Users who reach 3000 posts and/or three years of membership can choose their own rank and also rank picture.

    Rank picture

  • Custom rank picture must be approved by forum council.

    Moderation

When people get moderation rights which allows them to manipulate posts and topics of other members, it is necessary to comply with following rules. Failing to do so may result in removal of such rights. Purpose of this rules are to create environment where users don't have to worry about their posting and the way it is (mis)judged. Only worry they should have is compatibility with rules & guidelines as they are presented in this topic.

    Editing other users' posts

  • It is strictly forbidden to alter original posts made by other users.

  • Moderators may add their notices to other users' posts. Such a notice must be added to the end of post, be in different (distinguishable) color then rest of the text in that post and be italic. Moderator must be signed at the end of such notice.

  • Users are forbidden to edit such moderator's notices. They can discuss it in new posts by quoting such notice, but they may never alter it. This is to prevent same abuse as in case of moderators (see first point). Failing to do so may result in user's suspension or restriction of his right.

    Moving posts

  • If there is a post or topic that is violating forum rules and moderator thinks that its presence in public part of the forum is not in interest of this forum (illegal content, etc.), or moderator is simply not sure about such post, he may move it to moderation forum which is not publicly accessible. Final resolution about such post and/or topic shall be reached there.

    Deleting posts

  • Deleting posts of other users is forbidden unless user him(her)self asks moderator to do so.

How to deal with abuse of moderator's rights

If you feel someone abuses his privileges or you have an argument with moderator regarding his moderation, you can send me or any other moderator a PM or send me an email directly to ederon [at] ederon.net. Always remain polite and adhere rules as they are written here, do not make personal attacks despite the other side may have done it.
