The last 20 years for the United Kingdom had been eventfull. In the early 1860's it became clear to goverment, that a unified Germany would pose the greatest threat to the Empire, since the days of Napoleon. However, if the German states were to unite, it would need to be with French approval. Unfortunatly, rumors began to spread that the French goverment wouldn't stand in the way for this, and so a master plan to at least slow down this process was forged. The issues might have been solved by diplomatic means, but as discussions were taking place, bad news came from Asia. France had apparently invaded Burma, which UK consideret a buffer state which was to be left alone. If it was ever going to be invaded, most of it would of course go to Britain - that was the thinking in the military at least. The French colonial forces seemed to have other plans, and before the english diplomats could react - Burma was annexed completly! The diplomatic relations suffered, and a crisis was emerging...

In Europe, Prussia had taken over all the small German states by military force - but they had not yet unified into a real state and the country still had rebellions. It was at this moment that a brilliant mercant came to the Royal Palace and proposed an embargo on dye. Since the UK produced the most of the worlds supplies of this good, it would slow down the French and German expansion and force them to commit to some sort of a diplomatic arrangement, which might solve some of the concerns indicated by the UK goverment. This embargo didn't go as planned, and soon the Burma-crisis escalated as French forces invaded the western part of Pakistan. This territory was consideret UK, and France knew that - the road towards war was now open. While invading British "claims", the French also tried to turn the world against the UK. As always when faced with conflicts, France was inciting war and war they would get only a few months later. The military advisors in Britain hadn't been idle while the embargo was performed, they had instead sent out diplomats to some countries who was also frustrated with the french behaviour and thirst for war. An alliance between Russia, Italy and UK was formed and now the 3 countries waited for the chance to strike. When the moment came, war against Prussia was declared - as everyone knew France would back them and the Russians had easier access to German soil. In Pakistan, UK forces succeeded in destroying some 15 French divisions - but only after heavy fighting. Meanwhile, other British forces had landed in Denmark (Prussian provinces) - and Italians were fighting in Bayern. Unfortunatly the Italians were cut of, by the unreliable Austrians, and by accident the Italians signed peace with all countries. Russia had at the same time crossed into East Prussia, and were enjoying great success. But now Ottomans entered the war on French/Prussian side, and began pushing into Caucasus. French troops were also arriving and Berlin was liberated, which led to the disillusion of French military that they would win the war. In London army divisions could be seen everywhere, as a massive invasion force were being assembled to land somewere in Germany, which happened weeks later when the combined armies of France & Prussia had overstretched themselves. Somewhere north east of Berlin, this combined army was surrended by British invasion forces and the Russians who had been conducting a fighting retreat. Soon the warmongering French came crawling to the peace table, and it was decided that Denmark would once again be free and UK would gain Pakistan. The war in Caucasus had been a costly affair for both the Ottomans and Russians, so UK agreed to invest some money in the Ottoman economy while Russians would keep their territories. Also Ottomans were granted right to invade Persia, which now bordered British Pakistan.

On a side note, French and British iron ships clashed on the seas - but as Britain had the greatest numbers, they were wining most of the time. In East Asia, 3 british so called monitor class ships encountered 65 french wooden ships. After weeks of battle (long ehh ), UK was victorious sinking 10 ships while loosing none themselves. All this proved to the Admiralty, that wooden ships were now a thing of the past and ships made of iron - or even steel was the way forward.

From 1867-1880, colonies were expanded all over Africa and Asia. Italy soon entered the colonial race, and grabbed all of Portugese overseas territories. An agreement between British and Italian colonial offices were signed, and the UK got most of the former Portugese holdings in Africa. The relationship with France got better, and an alliance was formed to stop more wars between these to great nations. A number of wars errupted in Europe between 1870-1880, but the UK didn't get involved since they were concentrating on the colonial expansion. The industry were also booming, but as Germany was formed in the early 1870's they soon reached the same achievements. Currently the industrial battle is raging, but unfortunatly Germans seem to gain the upper hand these years...

You can't say civilization don't advance - for in every war, they kill you in a new way.

1880-1884


The austrian radical nationalists party began to fracture after being faced with several of the most powerful nations, the original austrian goverment was able to make the most of this opportunity and sieze back control over the nation. Peace was finally restored in europe and the italian troops were ordered to stand down as the border de-militarization treaty between austria & italy was renewed.

Meanwhile our far eastern colonies were expanded to include more islands in the pacific, however this raised tensions with the japaneese and only after several negotiations did the japaneese accept to relinquish their claims to the islands. Our colonies in africa have also began spreading deep into africa.

However the king of spain sent several complaints over the prescense of italian forces in the iberian peninsula, remenants from the war over the portugeese colonies. Although italy has been gradually returning these territories, the spanish demands and veiled threats have worsened relations with the iberian nations and threatened to stop the entire process. Nevertheless italy does recognise the portugeese rights and will honour them accordingly regardless of foriegn pressure.

Unhappy by the italian expansion in the far east, france had begun demanding the liberation of korea under the threat of war. However italy would not succumb to such demands as our military forces were more than capable of defending italy against france and her allies. Nevertheless diplomatic envoys were sent to france in an attempt to avoid bloodshed, but the negotiations failed and it seemed that war was inevitable. Italy began preparing for war, the sides were set and the diplomatic climate in europe was charged and tense. Realizing that a prolonged war between all european nations was about to start, france backed down from its demands and avoided great bloodshed between the people of europe.

Despite the frech backing down, relations between france and italy had now reached its worst. Another war between france & italy would've been inevitable, however a french diplomatic envoy arrived in rome in an attempt to restore relations with italy. After long negotiations, italy & france agreed to cease hostilities and begin restoring normal relations. Italy & france began to realize that they would have more to gain by being allies instead of enemies & before long italy had joined france and spain in an alliance. Despite doubts amongst some italian senate members of the french sincerity, it finally seemed that peace would reign again in europe.

However this peace in europe would not last, the germans, austrians and the ottoman empire had been planning for a war againt russia. Without warning, the 3 nations mobilized and began preparing for war. Italy would not stand for this unwarranted aggression and honoured its defensive alliance with russia, the senate passed the war funding bill and called for the mobilization of the army. Germany, Austria & the ottomans were now in a war against Italy, spain, Russia and her satellites. While the central powers have the advantage of surprise, italian officers are confident we can turn things around.

The Kingdom of France
1880 - 1885

The French Empire was shocked when news came to Paris that the Italians had declared war on the Koreans; a sovereign nation in the French sphere of influence. It was long though that Korea along with China and Japan were considered the "Asian Untouchables" nations of which should be protected by European powers against aggressors. And so it was, many nations backed the French in war if it was to come, Germans, Austrians, Ottomans, Spaniards, Britsih and even the Japanese had guaranteed support or neutrality in a possible war, it seemed an overwhelming mandate that a war should be waged to deal with the Italian occupation. Diplomatically France had sent envoys to Italy in hopes Italy would come to its senses and release Korea but the diplomats had failed.

During the 5 year "Korean Problem" France was not idle, the industrial sector had increased significantly and will continue to do so once the new rails are done; once again France had the 3rd strongest economy. Steps were also taken in the navy, more then 20 protected cruisers were put under construction to combat Italian naval expansion.

It was the army that would begin to shine, acquiring vast amounts of resources the French government was able to procure more then enough material to train over 600,000 French born soldiers, all equipped with modern artillery. They would merge with the older Home Guard to strengthen Frances home army to around 1.5 million strong. Bills were passed that increased the French draft army and it is expected in the coming years to reach 2 million men. In her colonies France's holding in Indochina were increased by a quarter of a million men and in Africa strategic sites are being evaluated and forts are currently being planned there.

All in all France had made it so war with Italy couldn't be lost and it came to the surprise to many a Frenchmen when not only was the war called off but an alliance between Italy and France was signed. Diplomacy had prevailed and despite France not recognizing Italian occupation of Korea it was willing to save French lives in order for peace. The Korean Problem was solved or at least had subsided.

Instead of the French treasury being used to build more ships it was sent off to foriegn countries to build up its economy. Spain, the other member of the Mediterranean Alliance had received some 100,000 dollars alone with several technical adviser in hopes create a strong ally.

When war had broke out between the German Axis and Russia it came to no surprise to France as several times diplomats were sent to Russia to negotiate a peaceful solution in the Caucasus but was time and time again pushed back by the Russians and amazingly even insulted. France has cut all diplomatic ties with Russia and despite staying neutral will not extend the offers given to other nations.

Although the attack came as a surprise, our military was able to quickly form a multi-phase plan to defeat our enemies.

Phase 1: Naval Superiority

- The atlantic fleet, comprised of 24 PCs was sent to the nordic seas to protect russian shores against amphibious assaults, the fleet encountered the german navy and came out victorious, sinking the bulk of the german navy with 0 losses.

- The home fleet comprised of 25PCs was sent to the black sea to defeat the ottoman navies. It encountered many ottoman fleets and was able to defeat them all, sinking almost the entire ottoman navy with 0 losses as well.

- The italian navy striked terror in the hearts of what was left of our enemy fleets as they fleed to port where they remained till the end of the war.

- The first wave of amphibious assaults were launched, madagascar and sinai were invaded with small armies and beachheads were established, however both invasions had limited success.

- Several Decoy amphibious assaults were made in the ottoman empire to spread out their forces.


By the end of phase one, austria had sued for peace handing over madagascar to italy in exchange for the romanian territories from russia.

Phase 2: North african invasion

- With almost half of the enemy reserve forces deployed in the wrong theatre, it was time to attack north africa. Several amphibious assaults were made along the egyptian coast. Almost 1 million soldiers had landed, they quickly managed to sieze control of the suez channel and began advancing south, pushing what little was left of the ottoman army into retreat. Forces from sudan began pushing northwards as well, causing the encirclement of the ottoman army. Ottoman reinforcements from lybia managed to break through the italian siege, only to be trapped as well. In a desperate attempt for survival, the ottoman army made a last stand at aswan where it was utterly destroyed.

- With egypt under italian control it was time for lybia & cyprus, the ottoman garrisons there faced the same fate as the egyptian one, encirclement and total destruction.

Phase 3: Fatal blow


- Our objectives in the war have been accompolished, it is time to force the ottomans out of the war by capturing the capital and striking at the ottoman industrial heartland. Several amphibious assaults were made around the ottoman capital and were quickly able to seize control of konstantinople. After the rest of the forces landed, the army reorganized and began pushing in both directions. It met very light resistance in the west, but advancing through the east was much more difficult as troops from the russian front had arrived. Nevertheless italian forces continued to punch through.

- Italian forces advancing from sinai met significan resistance, but were slowly able to punch through capturing large parts of the levant area as well as arabia.

Phase 4: Peace

- With the combined ottoman armies hopelessly outnumbered & outclassed the ottomans accepted peace, handing over egypt, lybia and cyprus.

- A seperate peace with germany was agreed moments before 300,000 men landed in morocco. Germany handed over control of iceland and the invasion of morocco was called off.

The italian Military officers were extremely happy with the performance of our armed forces, the italian amy had faced superior numbers in several occasions but came out victorious every time, there is only record of a handful of defeats in the midst of 100s of victories.
The navy had performed admirably too, it had sunk most of our enemy fleets while taking no casualties itself. While this is credited to the italian superiority in naval technology, a new ship class was sighted for the first time. A german PDN escorting transports was intercepted and forced to retreat, although the italian navy came out victorious the admirality fears that italy might lose its naval advantage. The italian navy will surely include this new class in its formation in the future.

Although the italian gains from this war were significant, it had lost much more. Many lives were sacrificed fighting for our ally's cause, the italian economic boom has also been derailed causing italy to lose its standing as 3rd industrial power and eventually as 3rd greatest nation. It might be neccessary for italy to adopt a more isolationist policy if its to avoid such major wars again. The italian economy has a long road ahead of it, however the goverment is confident it can repay its loans and move ahead with industrial expansion.

Russia in 1900:

November, 1900: Russia is in pitiful state. We've lost one war after another through most of the 19th century, culminating in a defeat so massive as to render us a mere satellite of Germany. Poland and the Baltics have been stripped away. Drained by war and unfavored by either modern medicine or health care, our state population stands at a mere 82 million and has one of the lowest natural growth rates and far and away the highest emigration of any European nation. There are Russians in Poland, in Australia, in America, in South Africa, Namibia and even deep in the Sahara, so frantic is the exodus from our hard-luck country.

Those that are not leaving are rebelling. Armed uprisings are a weekly event; our dangerously small and poorly-equipped standing army (the smallest of any actively controlled nation) is overstretched trying to guard the most disaffected provinces. The slaughter from putting down rebellions runs to tens of thousands of people monthly - burden piled on burden, keeping Russia down.

Our technology is the worst of any major civilized state - Japan, Spain, and the Ottoman Empire all beat us handily. With research at 0.81 points/month, we lose time on everything we develop. Industry and army are merely poor; economics bad to lousy; and culture and naval put-me-out-of-my-misery-please abysmal. Infrastructure - worse than that of interior Africa - factories, wealth-creation, and exports tell the same story. Only in raw materials is Russia a player.

It is in short - let us drain the dregs of this bitter cup - so abundantly obvious that Russia is no longer a Power that we're about to get thrown out of the listings. We're neck-and-neck with our fellow satellite Canada.

What happened (in brief):

Between 07-Nov-1900 and 01-Sep-1907,

* Russia regains her independence as a fait accompli through a Communist revolution, avoiding an immediate war but failing to win formal recognition from Germany. A series of short, successful wars with minors returns prestige to positive territory, allowing flexible diplomatic deal-making.

* Cordial relations are established with Britain; although no formal commitments are made before 1907, the United Kingdom materially helps Russia when Russia needs help most.

* Russian industry rises faster than that of any other major nation (albeit from a very low base), outstripping Austria to take 5th place. British subsidies, totaling a million pounds, are absolutely vital to this success. Exports more than double, as does cash flow; we're clearing 1200 a day.

* Population rises by a relatively modest 12.6 million, burdened during the early period by a revolution during which at times three thousand left daily, but boosted later on by the near-suppression of emigration, the end of the revolts, the establishment of world-class health care, and the purchases of three outlying territories from China.

* The standing army triples in size, is less technologically backwards (although it is still one of the most primitive forces in Europe), and is much better equipped with strong attachments. The mobilization pool, already very large, is further boosted. The Navy is scrapped and rebuilt. We secure the second highest military rating in the world.

As the session ends, all of these accomplishments are put in jeopardy by renewed German determination to subjugate Russia. Germany refuses all Russian attempts to re-establish mutually beneficial relations, preferring a Russia held to bondage to a free ally. Austria confirms her alignment with Germany. At the very end of this period, both plot aggressive war not merely to re-satellite Russia, but also to carve her up, with the goal of smashing us once again - this time for good.

Revolution:

So many were the problems that it was desperately hard to figure out which to tackle first. The first and most important remedy was a Red Revolution. The army fled to out of the way places like Kerch and southern Persia, then the crime-fighting budget got axed. It took less than a year from that point for the rebels to overrun the capital and half the landmass and successfully impose a Communist dictatorship (encouraged to do so by high poor taxes). Just before the revolution hit, craftsman converted into farmers and laborers, because they knew that they would otherwise become dangerously militant under the new regime, and loved their Motherland far too much to cause her grief.

To this day, the purpose of so drastic a measure as revolution has been disputed, with German historians focusing exclusively on the fact that it purged all Russian diplomatic ties: Finland was no longer Russia's satellite. Russia was no longer Germany's satellite. In this confident belief, Germany threatened Russia with war if the revolutionaries dared to regain national freedom. Russia avoided definite replies and quietly built up the army because, even without this, our other reasons for revolution were so important that we were prepared to risk war to overthrow the existing order.

The first was an end to the low-level civil war. No more endless self-murder as partisans rose and had to be put down. The second was a stop to the blood-sucking emigration; accomplished not through drastic improvements in social care (which we could not begin to afford in any case), but by re-establishing our identity as a nation. Russian population growth was now unshackled.

With this unshackling came another liberation: No longer did Russians insist upon absurdly low taxes. Poor patriots vied to offer the government of the Motherland everything above base subsistence, while their middle class and wealthy bretheren now handed over everything not absolutely needed to maintain their education and skills. Taxes went to 80% poor, 50% middle and rich and stayed there for years.

Our nation rebuilt on the backs of workers and peasants; their contributions reforged our national greatness. The Hammer and Sickle on our red ensign honors their sacrifice.


The day the Communists took over was the day they lost absolute power. Russians insisted upon free and open elections, peaceably re-established a full democracy, began an election cycle, and temporarily shifted to voting by Wealth to stop the radical party in power from fomenting any coups. A further - and most vital! - change was to un-ban the three parties previous governments had outlawed. This egregious political cherry-picking had imposed a +0.3 militancy shift to virtually all Russians; this was the single most important reason for the slow-boiling unrest it took a revolution to flush away.

Rebuilding:

Just as with politics, Russian economics underwent a sea-change in the early years of the 20th century. The enormous stockpiles - particularly that of oil - built up by previous governments in the pursuit of economic autarky got sold off immediately (with taxes and tariffs temporarily set to max). In the past, ministers had focused infrastructure development on critical resources and industry-rich states, pleading lack of finances to do more: Now, Russians realized that factories and resources cannot be fully efficient until the /average/ infrastructure in the homeland is also increased. Railroad workers and engineers labored with might and main to build up national infrastructure, starting with the many provinces with no rail network at all.

As with railroads, so with factories and capitalists: Moscow, St. Petersburg, the Urals, Sevastopol, Niznij Novgorod, and Smolensk either multipied their existing production or founded entirely new centers of industry. Not only did Russian factory workers become more numerous, but they also became far better educated, with more clerks than craftsmen in several of the biggest industrial centers. This shift accomplished two things: Firstly, it made factories more efficient and vastly more profitable; instead of machine parts costing Russia money for each one made, they turn a rather handsome profit. Secondly, the rate of science increase jumped by 50% in this period - from 0.81 to 1.26. Instead of falling ever further behind, Russia is at last catching up.

Also helpful was the diversion of effort away from white elephant projects - artillery production being the prime example - and luxury manufactories that demanded resources that Russia didn't have the ranking to secure towards steady, reliable earners. Steel, furniture, and regular clothes all provide an honest (albeit unexciting) living.

Revival:

Russia lacked many things; enemies were not one of them. Without military revival, all the accomplishments of this new century would be lost. We expected Germany to realize that a revolution would cancel our satellite status - and so he did. We also thought it probable that, having realized this, that he would threaten war - and so he did. We also give it about even odds that, having threatened war, he would cancel military access and then march over the border to force us back into our chains.

Therefore, as the rebellions raged in 1900 and 1901, almost every available penny was devoted to strengthening the army, and we researched nothing but army techs until we learned both Infiltration and Bolt-action Rifles. Never mind that the high taxation encouraged emigration. Never mind that industry and commerce and health all whimpered for funds. The first priority was the army, and we built divisions like the furies. Engineer divisions, artillery divisions, guards divisions in their dozens, clockwork increases of the mob pool - it wasn't until we had the highest military rating on the continent that we decided it was safe to seek prosperity.

Return:

For some reason Germany did not in fact invade with fire and sword. The threats stopped, German military rating barely budged, and all the signs from publicly available statistics and chit-chat was that Germany was distracted by larger matters than half-wrecked Russia.

By 1901, the United Kingdom and Germany had been in an industrial race for at least 15 years; the victor of this battle would, we were all quite certain, dominate the 20th century. By fomenting a massive industrial depression, Germany cleared out the Laissez-faire government that had hobbled her growth rate for far too long. By pure accident, the most distracting phase of this rather tedious operation (shutting and reopening scads of factories) coincided with our Revolution, the moment we bid for and won our freedom. On November 29th, 1901, British representatives arrived with that most welcome of gifts, five hundred thousand pounds (two years earnings for us) and we formally and publicly declared:

Russia denounces the slave-treaty! Russia is free again!

And to this, Germany said:

you are lucky i dont see this as a casus belli, yet /
i shall think of proper terms /
for now, it is peace

However dangerous in the long term, the exclusive German focus on self-strengthening thus gave us a valuable opening, first to regain our independence, then to quickly return to global diplomacy. At the start of this period, Russian prestige was negative, meaning that we could not offer specific deals to any nation. This awkward problem was quickly solved by a pair of short, victorious wars against Latin American minors who had committed the awful crime of ... urm ... well we forget, but it was truly heinous. By prior agreement with Great Britain, no demands were made of either Central America or Ecuador at war end; the prestige was enough.

Britain strengthened her earlier support by sending another 500,000 a couple of years later. The two gifts together amount to a million pounds, a vitally important boost to the extremely rapid Russian industrial buildup. British money laid most of our tracks, built most of our factories, promoted most of our clerks and capitalists, and was the reason why Russian enjoy world-class medical care. British support, in short, made it possible for Russia to accomplish what she did.

Towards the end of this session, a newly strengthened Russia began to look for additional opportunities in unclaimed, non-threatening places. Chinese interior Asia would do nicely; friendly relations with China meant we could quietly buy land instead of noisely stealing it. We traded some near-useless land for three moderately valuable border provinces, together containing about 1.5 million people growing cotton and mining sulfur. It's nothing like the Chinese coastal provinces - Hainen island alone has almost the population of all of Sinkiang and outer Mongola together - but, hey, it's better than a kick in the head.

Austria continues her growth and expansion into the 20th century. Due to further pleas from the oppressed peoples of the Balkans under Ottoman rule, another war was waged. This time all the peoples of the Balkans are now under Austrian rule. Over 1 million men were sent, notebally some 250'000 Hussars that had fought so bravely and honourabally in the first Ottoman/Austrian war several years earlier. The main army seized the capital quickly and our Hussars army moved swiftly through the Balkans seizing provinces while the Ottoman army that had fought so viciously in the previous war was no where to be seen. The army was mobilized as we were expecting a stiff fight, we were certain not to underestimate the Ottoman land power again. This brought reaction from other great powers in Europe with Britain mobilizing along with the former slave state of the USSR. In response our allies Germany mobilized and redployed tank divisions to the Russian front in fear of a response from the former puppet as they had expressed displeasure of Austrian interests in the Balkans during our previous war against the Ottomans. The Ottoman army finally arrived, too late however. The balkans had been overrun and reserve divisions were all ready beening deployed to the Balkans to occupy the land in order to protect the oppressed Ottoman citizens from Ottoman sympathizers. The main Ottoman army was smashed in 2 engagements which sore another 500'000 Ottoman soldiers litter the battlefeild. Shortly afterwards, the Ottoman army signed a peace aggreement on behalf of the beseiged governemnt in the capital. All of the Balkan territory was ceded to Austria along with the former Egyptian state of Sinai.

In short I gained another whooping 10 mill pop increase from my conquests. The massive soldier pops in the lower Balkan regions have skyrocketed my manpower growth. At lowest army maintenance I have something like 1000 manpower max available to me. Industrial score has almost reached 4'000 with my Capi's upgrading to Integeral rail system accross most of the empire. Austria enters the first quarter of the 20th century as a very strong power indeed. It is most definately going to be an interesting climax to the game. SE.

After the first war with the ottomans and a subsequent war in china, italy was in a terrible position. The economy was devastated from prolonged warfare and the military was exhausted and out of shape. The goverment had grown corrupt and many of its ministers and senators were more interested in expanding their personal possessions than the glory of their nation. The characteristic strong central leadership italy had enjoyed became too splintered and divided to control the vast italian empire. Rebellions sprung up across the colonial empire and a few ones on the mainland too, hawaii even managed to totally break free from italy and subsequently joined the USA for protection.

Italy's weakened global standing allowed the UK to move against it & grab many of its east african colonies uncontested. This was followed by another war with the ottomans where the superior italian military failed to push back the inferior ottoman troops that managed to retake much of eastern egypt including control over the suez canal. The power of the glorious italian empire was slowly fading away and in an attempt to stop this, what was left of the military took over the goverment in a coup d'état and installed a Presidential dictatorship goverment under strict control by the new Radical Liberal party.

Under its radical views italy entered a period that became known as the great depression. While all of the european nations had been racing to build up their economies, italy's wealth was mostly wasted away, however some of italy's investments were focused on the navy. Although this allowed italy to field an impressive navy to project its strength over its somewhat shrunken empire and ward off future aggressors, the economy and armed forces had been poorly maintained. Italy's industrial strength was almost half of france's and its land forces had become the smallest in europe.

However this was all about to change, the death of the president combined with the internal strife in the radical Liberal party and the swollen state of discontent and anger amongst the people at the goverment had forced the new president to finally restore a democratic system of governance. With a new liberal party, free press and expanded social reforms under way italy was slowly getting back on track. Rebellions across the empire were eventually put down with the aid of the french, and a massive industrial expansion program was setup. The military was also slowly being expanded to protect the italian people. As italy slowly gained back its international position, a great war erupted between the UK, france & Spain on one side and the Germans & Austrians on another. Italy is now in a very uncomfortable position, stuck between 2 giant warring alliances in a rather strategic position and continually being seduced to join the war by both sides. Maintaing neutrality will be hard as italy now stands at a crossroads, focus on internal policies to restore italy to its former glory or join this great war and claim a piece of the spoils. But which side should italy choose ? It has friends & interests on both sides and much to risk if it goes to war in its current state. However the military is certainly being expanded to protect italy should it find itself dragged into this war.

The turn of the century saw Germania enter a golden age. Together with the strong allies of Austria and France as neighbours, and Russia as a weakened puppet, Germania prospered. Free from the shackles of libertarianism, Germania under socialist rule thrived. The industry was expanded at an enormous pace, and for the most part of the 20th century surpassed that of the United Kingdom. It was a twist of fate, when the Russian Czar fell to a terrible illness and had to be replaced by a contemporary ruler. This ruler. however, confined the ill Czar to his supposed Death Bed and formed Russia to his liking. Soon, he turned Russia into a Soviet menace, freeing itself from it's shackles of pupptry. Germanias leaders, though outraged, faced the prospect of being beaten around by allied majors if there was going to be a war againt the Bolsheviks. Plus, a difficult situation after an election really did not help the process. The partnership with France and Austria flourished, until some unfortunate events in 1919 took place. In the couple years before, war was waged against Netherlands, to free the oppressed german citizens in the Netherlands, and by Austria to liberate the Turks from ottoman rule. While both wars did not actually stir anything up in the world, the treachery of France sure did.

Virtually out of nothing, France, still in alliance with Germania, declared war on Germania, and thrust into german lands. German forces, mainly positioned against Bolshevik threats and in a war with the Ottomans, were caught with their pants down. Soon peace was arranged with the ottomans, and the Long March of 810000 german soldiers, heavily armed, began from Constantinople to free the Vaterland from foreign oppression.
The german leadership was very surprised by the sudden landing of 350000 troops on a single beach in northern Germany. This sudden invasion seemed to have been planned in advance so many months already. Meanwhile, French froces marched seemingly unopposed eastwards towards the borders of Bohemia, while german armed forces from the east started to halt the advance of the UKians. It was not until Austrian general mobilization until the french front in Bavara crumbled. Forces over one million men strong penetrated until then unopposed french lines, and struck them hard. Many lives on both sides were lost, but the majority was french speaking. The arrival of long march veterans turned the tide, if only temporarily, in German favor. In the north, the landings were utterly repelled, and 20 somthing foreign divisions were destroyed, if at the cost of german cost of lives, also. The German Army then marched straight into Northern France and trying to liberate Holland, which had been nearly totally controlled already.

Advances into France had been repelled though, by fierce french resistance, and UKian uber engineers. The situation hangs now in the balance, with only minor disturbances possible to turn the tide of war in favor of on side.

A word to Spain: What an utter betrayal. You will pay for this, Spain. You proposed peace, in exchange for cores. All said and done. And now this! Don't expect mercy when my troops arrive. Remember Russia? Same goes for France.

One word: politics Tongue

Anyway, it was after we noticed Russia lends her troops to Germany. This was major factor that made Spain accept UK's proposal for an alliance.

The italian reconstruction plan had been going extremely well, within just 2 years italy's industrial strength had grown by a third and was still set for greater growth. The slow but steady expansion of the military had also helped in quelling rebellions and restoring piece to the italian empire, however italy had lost a great deal of territories in its period of depression to both the UK & the ottomans. It was neccessary to reclaim our lost territories if the people were to believe in the leadership of this new goverment.

After the rebellions had been put down the military was now once again capable of minor offensive operations, italian high command approved the use of force to reclaim territories captured by the ottomans. Italy joined Austria & Russia in a war against the ottomans and was quickly able to capture all of arabia as well as parts of egypt under ottoman control. This victory was neccessary to boost the people's national pride as well as display italy's regained strength to the world. With this show of strength italy began claiming its lost colonies from the UK by sending diplomatic envoys.

However the tensions over the german occupation of the netherlands had reached their limits and a great war broke out between the Allies of Western Europe and the German-Austrian alliance. Although it would be in italy's best interests to stay neutral and continue its reconstruction plans, italy did have things to gain from this war. However italy was not ready for a war of such scale, the army was too weak & scattered. An aggressive military build up plan was implemented causing the stockpiling of all weapons & supplies, alot of cash was invested in the military as hundreds of thousands were recruited to join the army.

As the italian army began swelling both alliances attempted to recruit italy to their side, but without enough incentive italy would remain neutral as it continued its buildup. After negotiatoins for italy's entry failed, both alliances signed secret non-aggression treaties seperatly with italy to avoid its entry on the other side.

After the war, negotiations with the UK had been resumed and were going pretty well, soon the UK agreed to return to the pre-war borders with italy, handing over the bulk of eastern africa back as well as eastern egypt & control over the suez channel that was taken from the ottomans after their victory over italy. While the european nations battled to settle their differences, italy had successfully used diplomacy to avoid bloodshed for its people as well as regain most of its lost territories.

Meanwhile the italian foriegn ministry was given priority to establish friendly relations with the rising power in the far east, japan. Talks with japan had been going on for a while and ultimatly ended with the establishment of an alliance between both nations, as a show of good faith italy in return handed control over south korea to japan.

The military buildup plan adopted during the great war of 1919 was expanded after the war, which underlined the volatility of the situation in europe. This decision proved to be an extremely wise one, as the french & spanish declared war on italy after it arrogantly set an ultimatum for italian troops to withdraw from ethopia after it liberated that nation from the corrupt goverment that had been exploiting it.

The french had once again betrayed their alliance with italy and declared war on us with no prior warning, it seems betrayal runs in their blood. Spain had also joined up with the vile french and began marching towards north italy. The army was quickly rallied and hastly sent to the frontlines to man the forts. The navy was called in to service as the ships had to be manned and armed for battle. While the main battlefleet was still a long way from bein ready, the homefleet was dispatched to engage the enemy fleets.

The first wave of attacks on our lines were quickly repelled and as italy pushed back it managed to capture 2 french provinces. Meanwhile our colonial forces began moving against the french colonies capturing many of them unopposed. However the combined force of the prepared spanish and french fleets had been too much for the hastly prepared homefleet to defend. Despite its best attempts the fleet was overwhelmed and forced to retreat to port. This allowed our enemies temporary free range in the oceans which they used to mount 2 amphibous assaults, one in the southern tip of italy while the other in genoa. The attack on genoa had been the most dangerous, threatning to comrpomise the entire defensive line. Italian leaders believed that a group from the frontline could be quickly assembled to squash this force and return to the forts in time to prevent the french from rushing the defences. However this was a very fatal mistake, while the italian forces had crushed the spanish attack on genoa. French forces successfully managed to break through torino. Italian attempts to regain the area were met with total disaster. Hundreds of thousands of french troops poured in through torino flooding the primary defensive lines and causing the army to retreat after the frontline had been broken. With little time to prepare, a hastly assembled 2nd frontline was quickly overrun as well. This tragic defeat of our military forces based on a single mistake had been tragic as there was little left between the enemy forces and rome.

However our forces managed to recover and began assembling a defensive line north of rome where they would make the final stand against our enemies which were now numerically superior. The main battlefleet had also been fully armed and set out to the seas where it quickly sank the enemy fleets and chased them back to port securing the seas for transportation of some of the colonial armies back to the homeland.

Although the situation looks grim, the italian leadership is confident it can recover from this disaster & liberate the italian territories. With the italian fleet securing the seas, Italian Military command will have enough time to train a new army from the colonial territories to liberate the motherland, while existing colonial armies are already arriving at the mainland.

When the Rightful People's Czar of Holy Socialist Mother Russia returned from his tour of the German capitol, he found vast improvements made to his country.
With the absence of a stable government in Konstantinopolis, Russia has waged several wars against the Ottomans, ending in Russia occupying Syria and the rest of Persia. At one point our armies even occupied Jerusalem, but traded that away to our reconciled friends the Austrians. We also gained the British occupied provinces in Persia. together, Persia and Syria now gives us access to both the Indian and Mediterranean seas, something which we will be sure to exploit in later years, with the expansion of the Red Banner Navy.
The Socialist Mencheviks have been in power since before the Czar's return, and have been instrumental in the expansion of the Russian industry and infrastructure. Almost every province of our far-flung empire can now boast of an integral railroad network.
When Germany was attacked by France and the UK, the Czar offered limited assistance to Germany in exchange for the return of our Baltic provinces. Several years later we threatened war upon France and Spain in support of Italy's colonies, and were part of the Coalition opposing Bourbon and Spanish terrorism.

Faced with the a defiant italy and an increasingly furious international community, france & spain were forced back to the negotiating tables. After long negotiations france & spain agreed to withdraw their forces from northern italy if the italian goverment would liberate the newly acquired territories of iraq under an iraqi national goverment.

With the war behind us, massive reconstruction of the war-torn areas was initiated. The treasury had been depleted during the war and it was neccessary to maintain war economy for a few more years to replenish it. Forts along the french border were given highest priority for reconstruction.

After excessive studying of the defeat at torino, military command had come to the conclusion that the defeat had been the result of 2 major factors:
1)The failure of the homefleet to delay an amphibous landing while the Battlefleet became ready.
2)The use of inferior reserve forces that were quickly mobilized from clerks, craftsmen & peasants against an experienced & well armed enemy army.
As a result, the reserve forces were disbanded and large scale recruitment was initiated to buildup an experienced professional army. The homefleet was also significantly boosted to avoid such a disastrous failure. Military command had also improved significantly on the nation's contingency plans and troop deployments. Italy would no longer be vulnerable to a surprise attack from anywhere.

Studying the war had also clearly defined which nations italy can consider friends, despite good relations with the United Kingdom an alliance with the UK was no longer of any strategic use as they failed to aid us in our times of need, it was time to start looking for new powerful friends. Diplomatic envoys were sent to germany & austria proposing the formation of a Central axis alliance to protect our common interests against a common enemy. After long negotiations & several visits to each other's capitals, the axis alliance was finally formed. Further negotiations with russia had also yielded a mutual defense pact.

Due to the changing colonial needs, italy had to revise its colonial situation. It was decided to abandon some of our far eastern colonies, this saw most of our pacific islands divided between the United States & japan. North korea was also handed over to japan as Italy officially recognized the Japaneese leadership as the rightful ruler of Korea. France made similar changes to its colonies by liberating many nations in the indochina region as well as gaungxi clique & yunan.

However china's decision to unite the warlords was met with fury in london. Although france was initially unaffected, the UK & spain began lobbying for war claiming to be protecting the liberty of the french satellites. International attempts at resolving this situation had failed and the allied invasion began. Many nations from the international community were upset with this savage display of force. Scouts from korea had reported horrer stories in neighbouring china as hundreds of thousands of chineese troops & civilians were killed all along the chineese coast & through the tibet mountains as well. Japan had also joined alongside china but was met with a similar fate. The UK, spain, france & canada had all established their own beachheads along the chineese coast and began pillaging their territories. Despite putting up a valiant fight and late russian intervention in the war, china had suffered huge casualties and was forced to accept the allies' humiliating peace offer which saw the recreation of the southern warlords. It is clear now that the allies' fake colonial changes are nothing but an attempt to disguise their true intentions of colonial dominance in the asian region.
