Rules

Most important rule: All players will remain at all times courteous and polite; this includes ingame chat, TeamSpeak chat, and forum posts. It is particularly important to remember this rule when someone is stabbing you in unmentionable places. If you are being crushed by overwhelming force, a little whining is one thing, but do not descend to personal insults. Conversely, if you are doing the crushing, mockery is not called for; you're likely to be next. Remember, just because you apologise for conquering someone doesn't mean you have to stop doing it. Bragging should take the form of AAR posts demonstrating your tactical cleverness; recall that this looks all the better if you don't call your enemy a noob - where is the glory in beating such? If someone makes a mistake, it is possible to say so calmly without personal disparagement.

  • KoM is GM; Foelsgaard is the deputy in his absence.
  • Game names will be "Children of the Fatherland", "Day of Glory", "Tyranny's Bloody Banner", and "Ferocious Soldiers Roaring".
  • The CK portion will have 12 players, as that is the practical maximum for stability.
  • Don't exploit any bugs, or do anything to give yourself an unfair advantage that is clearly outside the designed workings of the game. Gangbangs are within the design parameters and quite skeevy enough already.
  • CK has been modded to make Muslims human-playable; we have also broken up the larger Kingdoms.
  • We use an event chain to enforce limitations on the use of vassal troops.
  • The time is Saturdays, 1000 Eastern time - the same as the NSRAN timeslot. When we have summer-time issues, the current host's time will be used.
  • Each player gets one major edit to reconstruct them during the game. The edit will be the minimum work required to make your dynasty playable (as decided by the GM), and you will only get one of these in a game. Choose when you use yours well (note, Frosty, Foelsgaard, fasquardon & Carillon have already used their reconstructs).
  • When people crash, we will rehost if
    a) They are at war with someone of reasonably equal power - one-province Counts do not count
    b) More than one player crashed
    c) Six months of game time pass.
  • In the game lobby, do not select before the host! This causes instability. Also, do not tab out of the lobby while downloading the game, we will not rehost for graphics issues. And don't mess around with stuff during game time; the time to test things is during the week.
  • The game will start 15 minutes past the appointed time, ignoring any plaintive screams on TS from people still trying to join. Likewise, if a rehost stretches more than ten minutes we will go ahead and start.
  • While not mandatory, regular defrags do improve game stability.
  • You may not attack a player who is currently AI; this prohibition lapses after three sessions away. If attacked by such a player, exercise restraint in the peace treaty.
  • BYZA is forbidden as a primary title. If an AI kingdom gains the title as their primary, no player can play it, even if a member of their dynasty holds the title. A player can request the BYZA title be made a secondary title of any Kingdom ruled by their dynasty, so long as that Kingdom has another King title.
  • You can play any County, Duchy or Kingdom ruled by a character of your dynasty, unless that Kingdom has the BYZA tag as their primary and unless it is a County or Duchy that is a vassal of a realm controlled by another player's dynasty, in which case you need that player's permission. For example:
The Komnenid Duke of Antioch is a vassal of the Fatimid* King of Egypt. KoM thus needs Frosty's permission to play the Duke of Antioch. This is true even if Frosty is at that time playing as the Duke of Alexandria, a Fatimid* vassal of Egypt.
  • You cannot take another player's primary title in a war if that player has any vassals.
  • You may not force-vassalise a character who is currently the vassal of another character. Specifically, this peace option:

may not be used. Observe that it is permitted to force-vassalise independent characters. So, for example, in these common situations:

  • At war with a king: You must force-annex his counts and dukes.
  • At war with a duke: You must force-annex his counts, but you can force-vassalise the duke if he's independent.
  • Someone rebelled: You can force-vassalise.
  • Someone rebelled and pledged allegiance elsewhere before you could crush him: You must force-annex. (Observe that this gives the new overlord a claim on the province and a nice CB. Weigh your chances.)
  • A poxy little Count DOWed you but his King didn't back him up: You must annex.

By 'annex' is meant "take the title". An exception to this rule is when the overlord is human; he may give permission to force-vassalise as a way to avoid a FoCoG.

  • If two players are at war with an AI, neither may (without the consent of the other) peace so that provinces the other controls become part of their realm. If the rule is broken, the offending peace shall be edited so the other party gets its benefit. Screenshots are strongly recommended if you are going make a complaint under this rule; taking a screenshot every time you occupy a province may not be a bad idea.

Example 1: Jakalo and I are at war with Pisa. Jakalo controls Modena, I control Pisa. I may not force-vassalise, because then Modena would become part of my realm. Jakalo may not force-vassalise, because then Pisa would become part of his realm. I can enforce a claim on Pisa; Jakalo can enforce a claim on Modena. If either of us peaces out for claims, the other can force-vassalise what's left. If I don't notice that Jakalo is holding Modena, and force-vassalise, Pisa will be edited to be Jakalo's vassal.

Example 2: Foelsgaard, and I are at war with Pisa. Foelsgaard has no troops in the area. I can peace out for whatever, since Foelsgaard doesn't control any part of Pisa.

    Lineup:

  • King of Men (Komnenos, Byzantium)
  • Oddman (Dhu'l-Nun, al-Andalus)
  • Gollevainen (Don, Finland)
  • Von Rundstedt (Rurikovich, Most of the Russias)
  • Carillon (de Flandre, France)
  • Foelsgaard (Abbasid, Persia)
  • Jakalo (de Toulouse, South Germany)
  • OrangeYoshi (Radomir, Croatia)
  • Kolibri (Knautschling, Denmark)
  • Fivoin (Goldstrand, North Germany)
  • FrozenWall (Fatimid, Egypt)
  • Ike (Tilius, Tilioi Liberation Army)

    Backups:

    FoCoG

Field of the Cloth of Gold rule:

By this means binding treaties may be made, and titles may be transferred by edit.

  • 5000 gold per vassal or individual title transferred must be paid (meaning the duke of Bohemia, count of Prague and Stettin would cost 5000 gold to be transferred from one liege to another, but transferring the titles of Prague and Bohemia from one owner to another would cost 10000 gold), by any combination of players - usually, but not necessarily, the ones benefiting from the treaty.
  • Claims may also be transferred, at 2500 gold per claim.
  • Treaties should ideally be written up and agreed to before Wednesday evening of the editor's timezone. In borderline cases, the editor has discretion on whether the treaty should be postponed to next week.
  • Where a treaty describes a future action, or is otherwise not done instantly, eg "In exchange for these good and valuable considerations, the Kingdom of Georgia undertakes to declare war upon the most foul Kingdom of Ireland before the end of the year 1420, and take the field with at least 5000 men", non-compliance with the terms is punishable by excommunication unless the other parties to the treaty agree that the violation was justified. (In this case, if Georgia didn't DOW Ireland, or didn't send 5000 men to fight there, they'd be excommed.) Judgement of whether treaty conditions have been met is in the hands of the GMs. In view of the sometimes acrimonious debates that have flared up over quite unimportant issues, it is suggested that such terms are kept to a minimum. Treaties intended to be enforced in this manner must be written in the AAR thread for future reference.
  • In cases where a breach occurs during play, there will be a rehost and edit on the next January 1st.
  • Any number of titles may be transferred in a single treaty. You must provide province IDs or tags for the transfers, and if any characters are affected, their character IDs; the editor may ignore treaties without this information. Efforts should be made to make the OOC portions of treaties readily understandable. For example C547 -> GERM if the county of Kiev is being made a vassal of Germany.
  • Vassals of vassals may be transferred.
  • There is a gentleman's agreement to the effect that we will not use this rule to change the logistical situation during wars, for example by extending far-off realms closer to the field of action to avoid attrition.

  • Please be considerate when formulating your FoCoG treaties. Editing is hard work, and overworked editors will quit and leave you you holding the bag.

    AARs

There is a reward for posting AARs of at least 500 words, or an equivalent amount of work in the judgement of the GM, before the session. AAR rewards may be requested (in the edit thread) before the AAR is posted; such requests should be marked 'feeling lucky'. If an edit is made and no AAR appears before the session, three times the reward will be edited back out (or a reasonable equivalent if 'three times' is hard to judge). Writers are encouraged to make an index post with links to their updates, preferably on the first page of the AAR thread. The available rewards are:

    1. Remove disease, Looted, or rebellion from (one province per twenty in your realm, rounding up), or add one to its wealth level.
    2. Cure disease or wound in a character, up to and including Inbred.
    3. Make a married female character pregnant (father will be her husband); requires the consent of the realm player if not in your own court.
    4. Remove rebellious trait from one-tenth of your vassals, rounding up.
    5. Add Loyal trait to a character.
    6. Add stability.
    7. 10000 gold, 600 prestige, or 300 piety; to be adjusted in 1100, 1150, and every fifty years thereafter.
    8. Improve education to the next level; max once per character
    9. Add a friendship or remove a rivalry. Requires consent if done to a character in another player's dynasty.
    10. Move up to 5 landless courtiers to your court. You must provide the character IDs. When the courtiers are moved, their loyalty is set to 100%. If the courtiers come from a realm other than your own, you must obtain the permission of the player who that realm, if the courtiers belong to a player's dynasty, you must obtain permission from that player.

    Conversion stuff

  • We will use Dynastic Glory (or rather, a similar algorithm) to determine the order of choosing National Decisions.
  • EU3 will not be modded, but we will use Dano's ROTW setup.

    The Mod

    1. Install Crusader Kings
    2. Install Deus Vult
    3. Integrate the october 15th 2008 betapatch into your CK folder
    4. Integrate COTF_mod_Aug19.rar (attached to the bottom of this post) into your CK folder
    5. If you wish, integrate CotFP.zip into your CK folder. CotFP is an optional mod, changing the colours so that every player has their own unique colour. It also changes the names a little, to increase clarity and reduce anachronism.

Important: Keep the order as listed above. For steps 3, 4 and 5 chose "yes" if you are asked whether you want to integrate the folder and "overwrite" for all files (exact wording for the message boxes might differ depending on operating system)

    File Attachment(s):
    COTF_mod_Aug19.rar (1,233kb) downloaded 52 time(s).
    CotFP.zip (23kb) downloaded 39 time(s).

    Needs update to EU3-

"Hvor fattige var de ikke, disse fiskere som levde av havets nåde! De slet sig gjennom livet uten å se sig om til høire eller til venstre. Deres gleder var få, deres bekymringer mange. Men de hadde allikevel et gemyttlig smil til den fremmede, en munter vise og en lun historie. For sånn er de, disse Sørlandets barn."

    We should update this thread.

Their game can only exist to be won.
Then so be it who else can see it done.

    Fasq should, in any case.

Ehm, just a quick question, what is this ROTW setup you mention for EU3? Do I need to download some file?

Nope, you just need the latest save game, which should be posted by KoM shortly.
