So to start off i joined playing this campaign in the middle of eu4 japan then was a mess only propped up by near endless amounts of gold from China, Khazaria, Latin Empire, and Leon. Korea held roughly 50 percent of the home islands. I joined the campaign with zero expectations to survive and expected myself to be playing a colonial. Many wars later and were one of the stronger supporting powers in the game who influences the whole of Asia with our actions.

Session 1 Victoria

Being Japan comes with some very serious advantages and some very serious disadvantages. advantages being - we have a natural barrier of entry saying your navy must be this large for you to even touch anything worthwhile in my nation. Disadvantages being without being the worlds premier power i struggle to influence anyone that isn't an island nation.

anyway our first session went as such we encouraged clergy and set up a baseline of factories in our nation as well as foreign investment to make sure we keep great power status, sphereing 3 nations of Kimifornia (California), Australia and new Medina (new Zealand). the worlds premier industrial power and the number 4 gp.

Funnily enough it wasn't an entirely uneventful session as there was a crisis featuring myself and Scandinavia over the colonization rights of Siberia. Needless to say he ignored my warnings and lost 25 prestige after being backed by no one.

looking towards session 2 we have India opening up as well as kong and the other African minors so were gonna have at least some wars start. negotiations are underway because no one wants to fight a war. its looking to be a very peaceful Vicky but we all know it wont end that way, to many grudges and to many talks always leads to world wars. i expect the first great war to be started in America over the vast oil reserves that will be found there. one maybe 2 great wars in Vicky started over trivial things, but who knows we may see peace in our time.

There are a few treaties going on that have far greater implications than anyone is willing to admit deciding the fate of the coming wars. one for Africa and the other dividing Asia. we shall see if these are upheld or not but japan has one goal and that is to survive as a strong power preferably keeping the number 4 spot on the gp list. if we cant maintain number 4 stay a gp and all else failing live to see the hearts of iron phase.

here are our session 1 territorial gains all through colonization:

new Zealand

Siberia

So Mark, you have 250 words there, and I usually add 100 for screenshots. (That is, for having screenshots, not per image. ) To get a reward you need 500.

Also, for the love of the absent gods, crosspost to the Pdox thread!

Empire of Japan

session 2

Japan has made great strides in education in the previous years not only educating the landed elite on the home islands but all territories owned by the empire. Again a peaceful session the world hasn't seen real conflict in many years. that may change soon as tempers in Europe look to be flaring and colonial ambitions in Asia heat up. From previous experience you would assume japan would be one of the people plotting but we are in in a position where warfare doesn't benefit us in any real way, that may change but for now peaceful japan is peaceful.

The drawings in Asia have been made the first blood taken in India but two more positions open up in session 3 and japan intends to be a prime beneficiary of the second / third kill. we will strike at Malaya hard and fast overwhelming them with no one to even put up a farce of protecting them, and if they do wish to protect them the imperial navy the largest in the world by far at over 400 vessels shall show them that intervening wasn't in there best interest. But anyway Finally at long last japans eternal enemy shall fall and to honor that fact on the day they are annexed we shall make it a national holiday. :3

industrially japan is by far and ahead the world leader don't believe anything otherwise from unreliable sources japan is the worlds greatest great power the most prestigious militarily the strongest and unanimously the industrial leader.

we have decided to prioritize clerks over craftsmen not something i normally do but i just had a bright idea that it should work no testing i just kinda went with it. focusing on liquor and wine but mostly getting extremely rich off of tea, using that tea wealth we have been building up 2 nations mostly Korea and Great Britain. fortunately against them we can always leverage the threat of war and attempting to puppet them if they want to take my investments away from me not that i hope it would come to that.

Politically japan has become an HMs monarchy allowing the landed elite to elect an imperial court to serve the emperor. the imperial government hasn't changed at all the people can vote and then the imperial court chooses whose in charge, but the Divine emperor of imperial japan always has the final say. ( in game terms its basically i can hold elections and get there benefits and then swap whatever government i want after they all worked so hard voting) But the emperor would never...... abuse his powers any anyone who says otherwise are REBELS...

Session three will be exciting to watch and participate in. A lot of diplomacy has been flung around we shall see what sticks and what does not, what wars happen and what don't. This session is going to decide a lot of how the Vicky phase plays out for both My empire and the world at large.

Empire of Japan

Session 3

War against Malaya was swift. they had spirit in combat but not much else. Japanese steel cut through them like butter. After several very easy battles earning us a heap ton of prestige roughly 20 facing there 200k army we have achieved victory. Japan took both the island of new guinea and half the island of Brunei. The scavengers on the dead corpse took collectively the island of java and the island of Sulawesi.

Colonization of Africa has opened up finally and Japan will be doing there best to claim a part of the continent. Japan intends to claim parts in the central African region. we don't really have much influence in the area but several of our close friends and allies do. we need to rely on diplomacy and our allies much closer to the continent to gain land there.

Industrially japan is growing at a decent pace. Last session we decided to focus on more clerks but mostly capitalists. Our capitalist population went from under 200 and shrinking to over one hundred thousand. the upcoming session i plan to finally focus craftsmen and we will see the results :3

Politically nothing has changed at all. the population is still extremely jingoistic and cares way to much about tariffs. I am really looking for my anacho liberals to finally spawn. other than that socialists have spawned and they are steadily gaining traction withing the imperial council. The emperor wants to hear none from them tho as even this early he knows they only seek to take his power and give it to the peasants.

In the upcoming session there will be conflict with Japan leading the way into it as usual. There will be stiff colonization in Africa as well as several other regions i can reach. Japan is strong and i intend to use its strength until i am proven i am not able to. But using my strength doesn't mean full blown war. If it comes to war Japan will be prepared for it. at this moment we are contesting regions with Korea and we intend to continue contesting even if it leads to us ultimately losing.

The dream is i win all the colonial contests i am currently in and construct the greatest rail line anyone has ever seen from japan all the way to Europe. I don't think its possible but a much more realistic thought is gaining a few more ports and some extra pops. Id be more than happy with an extra port or two.

All in all last session went wonderful for japan and the hope is to continue that trend into the next session as well.

Session 4

Japan Has been in the number 4 great power slot for an uncomfortably long time. My goals as the world stands are to continue to survive and defend my number 4 gp spot violently if need be as is Japanese tradition at this point to use force as the 2nd option. but beyond that things are going well for the Empire. we have the worlds highest prestige pre great wars and if things continue to go our way we are looking to end the game that way and take the benefits that will come with our high prestige for conversion.

The major thing that happened last session was colonization!!!!! We colonized a large part of the middle of central Africa and got into a diplomatic situation over colonization with Korea over Siberia and Alaska. Korea refuses to make any kind of deal with Japan and ends up with much less than it could have gotten. In the meantime of us making a deal if there is to be one happening japan gets 2 new ports Big Grin and japan is always happy to have more ports. the main focus of last session was just this securing my colonies and making sure any contested states went to myself.

kinda a photo dump of all the places i colonized

Industrially i am lagging behind several nations have started to catch up to me mainly China as peasant labor appears to be better than the slave labor im enforcing in Africa, America, and Oceania. Why slaves don't want to work in factories is beyond me. Ive even went so far as to make new slave states in Siberia and Africa.

In the upcoming session Japan aims expand there navy considerably and develop a real army capable of fighting a real war. The age of frigates needed to come to an end at some point this next session seems to be the point i will start to transition to battleships and then into Dreadnoughts.

There was also a minor border skirmish with Malaya as they cannot be allowed to survive as a free country! we took a state and are in the process of taking a 2nd one.

The age of great wars will also happen this session and we will see if one pops. I personally don't think it will but it may and if it does it will be a deciding factor over who comes out on top into Hearts of Iron.
